Smart, hard working…just two of the many comments used to describe the everyday efforts of Mason Peery of Stigler High School.

The Panthers starting quarterback earned 3A-8 offensive player of the year honor this season passing for 1,934 yards and 28 touchdowns in addition to rushing for 1,029 yards including 17 trips to the end zone.

“He’s the total package, a cerebral and physical type of player that is always focused on achieving his goals as well as our team game plan,” said head football coach Chris Risenhoover. “Mason is deserving of a spot on the Mt. Rushmore of Stigler football.”

The 2020 senior is equally competitive in the classroom where his 4.0 GPA has resulted in Perry earning Valedictorian honors.

Getting named Valedictorian means a lot to me. I have always worked hard to keep a 4.0 and have managed to do so while doing other activities that take up time and effort as well.”

When asked about the key ingredient to his achievements, Peery was quick to respond with confidence.

“Hard-working is the most important thing to me. I feel as if you should have to work for what you want. Nothing will be handed to you in life.”

His continued dedication to hard work is a character trait that he credits to the influence of his parents.

“My mom and dad have inspired me the most. Dad instilled in me to never give up and that nothing is impossible. My mom has always been there for me and pushed me to be the best I can be in everything,” Peery said with appreciation. “They are definitely the reason I am who I am today!”

Described by Risenhoover and others as a humble and quiet spirit who leads by example, Peery’s food favorites are just a basic.

“I don’t really need a menu. Just give me a steak with a baked potato and green beans”

Following graduation, Peery’s plan of success includes attending Northeastern State University pursuing a degree leading to a career as a Physical Therapist.

It’s a road map that will require Peery to remain focused on the end reward

“I plan to follow the best advice I’ve ever received. Defeat is never an option, NEVER GIVE UP no matter what your up against.”
