Morris’ Jeremiah Jones – Muscogee Creek Nation Athlete of the Month

Morris High School sophomore and starting guard for the varsity basketball team, Jeremiah Jones is more than just a great athlete, he is a proud member of the Muscogee Creek Nation. For Jones, being a member of the tribe brings a sense of pride when he thinks about the opportunities they provide.

“Being a member means a lot because I have the opportunity to represent my tribe,” said Jones. “They’ve done a lot like help me with my school supplies and provide whatever I need for school and they have a dome out there to workout and play basketball.”

Jones said as a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation, he has the opportunity to be involved in his community and showing others what the tribe can do for the community is important to Jones.

“I get to show people what the tribe will do and how the community is,” said Jones.

As a member of the varsity basketball team under head coach Jerry Peaker, Jones has exceled at his sport and he loves the guys he is playing with at Morris.

“Most of my family goes here so I get to see them and hangout with them all the time and the thing I like about my teammates is that they’re unselfish and not about themselves and we have fun and laugh all the time,” said Jones.

The small forward is expected to have a big year on the court, but basketball is not the only sport Jones will play this year.

“I am joining the baseball team and looking to join the football team again next year,” said Jones.

One reason Jones is proud to be part of the Muscogee Creek Nation is the respect his tribe gives to everyone in the community.

“We are a nice, respectful tribe and will help with as much as we can,” said Jones.

Look for Jones and the Morris Eagles this season as they take on a tough schedule ahead. Jones and his teammates are ready for the challenge.
