Cheerleaders are an important part of high school athletics. They keep the crowd hyped and involved in the game and cheering on their school to victory.

Captain of this year’s Howe cheer squad Macy Nobles says that she enjoys being with her teammates at each sporting event and helping keep the crowd involved.  “The thing I enjoy most about cheering at our school is the energy level at every ball game,” she said. “As a cheer team, I love the memories we make together and how close all of us are to each other. It is like adding on to our family, we become sisters for life.”

Head coach Jamie Nobles says that her squad does a great job of getting people involved.  “These girls have such a unique way of connecting not only a crowd to the game, but bringing a student body together, making each individual feel a part of something even bigger.”

The cheer squad has had a lot to cheer about the past few years. The Lady Lions softball and basketball teams competed in their respective state tournaments the last two years. And last year, the team helped celebrate the Lady Lions basketball team win the Class 2A State Championship.

Outings are a fun thing the team loves to do together. Coach Nobles says one of their favorite events happens in October.

“Each year, we have our Halloween Spooktacular,” she said. “All the girls get dressed up and we go to the Muskogee Castle and get our scare on. There is never a dull moment and you are sure to experience all the trick or treats you can handle.”

Cheer co-captain Maddy Nobles seeing unity in the crowd during games is really awesome.

“I love cheering at home games,” she said. “The atmosphere is filled with so much school pride. Everyone comes together united as one to get the big win. Our team is really a great sisterhood. I love to go to battle with these girls and take on other squads. ‘Come get you some’ is our team motto.”
