Haskell’s Chassi Dowdy – Softball Spotlight Presented by York Street Tire

To say that softball is a way of life for Chassi Dowdy of Haskell may well be an understatement.  Since playing her first game in the outfield at age four, the Lady Haymakers pitcher now as a junior enjoys going to the ballpark for practice as well as playing games wearing the blue and white.

“I love the game and enjoy the chance to have the ball in my hand working from the circle,” replied Dowdy. “As a pitcher, I have a chance to make a difference on every play.”

In addition of her success in softball, Dowdy takes care of business in the classroom posting a 4.0 GPA in addition to creating school spirit as a cheerleader and will be back on the court this year playing basketball in addition to participating in FFA at Haskell.

“I do everything else left handed but I play softball right-handed,” laughed Dowdy.

A fan of Oklahoma State Cowgirls softball and her favorite player Samantha Show, Dowdy’s focus to teamwork and unity remains a number character influence that perhaps explains the popularity of the Haskell junior who collected 17,293 votes and the runner-up honor in the VYPE Fan’s Choice softball poll in the Muskogee area.

“It’s why we chose this year’s team motto G-Y-B (Got Your Back).  We decided that we would commit our efforts to support each other. We all need to know that the person beside you always has your back,” Dowdy said with emphasis and pride.

Known to her friends by the nickname “Grace”, Dowdy admits her adoration for Mexican food had a quick response when asked if she could compete in any event at the Olympics.

“It would be really cool to play volleyball in the Olympics, especially playing outdoors on the beach,” winked Dowdy.

While waiting on a potential chance to play college softball, Dowdy’s future plans to complete her degree and become an occupational therapist.
